Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Programs
2024 Litter Prevention T-shirt design contest
Congratulations to Janna Winningham from West Geauga Middle School in Geauga County! Her beautiful artwork was chosen to be reproduced onto all of our litter volunteer T-shirts in 2024. Over 1,500 t-shirts will be distributed in Geauga & Trumbull Counties to volunteers who signed up to pick up litter.
Our Classroom and Youth programs
Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District (SWMD) and Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) are pleased to announce an education collaboration between the districts. The purpose is to deliver educational programs to Geauga County schools and youth focusing on the 3R’s-Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
- Our programs are:
- Approximately a half hour in length, but can be easily modified
- Hands-on, interactive, and fun
- Free of charge!
- Below is a preview of some of the presentations available
Grouchy Ladybug
The grouchy ladybug encounters many different types of animals along the way as she learns better manners. Lucky the Ladybug is Ohio's Lady of Litter Prevention. It is time to learn to clean up our own backyard.
Pumpkin Jack
Discover composting and life cycles. A jack-o-lantern becomes a good friend to a young boy. When it starts to droop, he puts it outside in the garden. In the spring, more pumpkins grow from it.
Recycle Relay
Successful sorting of what goes where in this fast pace activity.
The Garbage Monster
A garbage monster is created when a young girl, Jo, takes her time taking out the trash. Jo decides to take the garbage monster apart one piece at a time, finding a better use for each piece. 3R's!
Take a bite out of the Landfill
Where does the garbage truck dump all our trash? Is there enough room? This presentation addresses landfills and decomposition. Each layer of the landfill is a tasty treat at the end with an edible activity.
Recycled Products and Odd Recycling
We don't think twice about recycling glass, aluminum and paper. However the idea of recycling old garbage dumpsters into swimming pools and food waste into purses is questionable. Students will take a look at recycled products made from everyday items and then vote on cutting-edge or edge of yucky recycling efforts and cast their vote: green or gross .
